30 Build castles in the Sky

Build Castles in the Sky Here is an interesting fact about spiders. Spiders are usually born on the lower branches of bushes or trees. Some for one reason or another decide to stay right there in the lower branches where, when old enough they leave the web of their parents and move over to another corner and build their own web. There in the safety, they catch the odd fly and have enough on which to live, not fat or full but they get by. Others decide to climb to the higher branches and build their webs on the exposed branches of the trees and bushes. These are the webs that get torn and battered by wind and rain. They are also the webs that are up there where most of the flies are, so the captures they make are more frequent. In turn, these spiders eat better, are stronger and bigger.  One day one such spider met a very small young spider on the branch of a bush. The young spider looked at the big one in awe. The large spider asked what the youn...

29 You Want to be a Butterfly?

You Want to be a Butterfly? I remember one day out walking. it was before I had my apple watch and I was wearing this little watch, not a costly thing at all, the strap was made of rubber. It was good when running, and walking light in weight and not accurate enough to have me trying to push to beat a deadline. It did not have any numerals on its face. It had a dot at the place where the 12 should be and that is it. So most of my times end with an “ish”. This day I went walking and was enjoying stravaiging along in no particular hurry. Twice I remember glancing at this watch and thinking, “I can have a bit longer sitting here.”  When I headed back home, I was surprised to see the clock on the church tower. It was telling me a time I most certainly had not expected. I looked at my little watch, I had it on upside down. Twice in the course of yesterday, I heard somebody complaining about his or her life. How long and boring the day was and every day was the sa...

28 Getting Older.

Getting Older I had gone out walking and set my watch to record the time and the distance, as is my want. It had been raining heavily so I put on a waterproof jacket with tight cuffs. Sometime during the walk, the cuffs had pressed something on my watch and I could not read the walk or reopen the app.  I decided to wait until I got home and would fix it then. I made a coffee and got myself comfortable in my easy chair. Now to fix the watch. This is where I still am not sure what I did but one thing for sure I pressed the wrong buttons. My watch went into emergency mode, the next thing I heard was which service do you require, police ambulance or fire brigade? I panicked in a loud voice shouted to my wife I have done something with my watch and cannot get it off. Eventually, I managed to get it off and I pressed the reset buttons to give it a boost. Thinking all was well I relaxed with my coffee. My mobile phone rang. It was the police checking that all was well, they...

27 Oh, To Be Perfect

Oh, To Be Perfect There is the story of the man who had never married.  One day his best friend asked him why he had never met somebody and settled down? He told his friend that he had wanted very much to do just that. He had looked and looked for the perfect girl.  “You never found her?” asked his friend.  “Yes, I did,” he replied. He went on to tell his friend how he had met the perfect girl. She was perfectly beautiful and perfectly talented loving and caring. She would have made the perfect wife.  “So why did you not marry her?” asked his friend.  “Because she was looking for the perfect man.” if we spend our lives seeking perfection in ourselves or the lives of others, we will end up wasting our precious moments seeking that which can never be found.  it is the wise person who encourages others to be the best they can and learns to be the best they can be themselves.

26 My Friend Barry

My Friend Barry I remember a young lad who worked beside me his name was Barry. Barry had his problems; he was slow on the uptake. What to some people seemed like a simple task took Barry a bit longer to work out?  One day somebody made a comment about him. “Room temperature IQ, that one.” Everybody found it very funny, and before long Barry became the one who people poked fun at in order to join the crowd. Here are a few others of the things that were said about him.                          ·                     One short of a six-pack. ·                     Bright as Alaska in December. ·              ...

25 The Three Guests

The Three Guests A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long white beards sitting in her front garden. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you look hungry. Please come in and have something to eat." "Is the man of the house home?", they asked. "No", she said. "He's out." "Then we cannot come in", they replied. In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened. "Go tell them I am home and invite them in!" The woman went out and invited the men in. "We do not go into a House together," they replied. "Why is that?" she wanted to know. One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home." T...

24 How Many Friends?

How Many Friends? A student came to a teacher and asked him, “Master, how many friends should a person have, one or a lot?” “Everything is very simple,” the teacher answered, “pick me that red apple from the highest branch.” The student looked up and answered, “But it’s too high, Teacher! I can’t reach it.” “Ask a friend, maybe he will help you,” Master answered. The student called another student and stood on his shoulders. “I still can’t reach it, Teacher,” said the disappointed student. “Don’t you have more friends?” the teacher smiled. The student asked more friends who started standing up on each other’s shoulders and backs grunting, trying to build a live pyramid. But the apple was too high, the pyramid crumbled, and the student wasn’t able to pick the longed for apple. Then the teacher called him back. “So, did you understand how many friends a person needs?” “I did, Teacher,” the student said, rubbing the injured sides, “A lot, so together we c...
